What's going on with my toddler?

Ds has just turned 2 and recently started a new nursery a couple of days a week. He had been in one before for almost a year but we moved so he had a break for two months in between getting a space.

About 2 weeks ago he developed an awful cough. Then about a week ago he started getting high temperatures for no apparent reason. He just finished an antibiotic for the cough which did help calm it though its still there a bit and he's not had a temp or any other obvious symptoms for about 5 days now, but he's absolutely exhausted. He's easily sleeping in to 10am in the mornings, crying and asking to be put down for a nap by 12 (he had dropped his nap) and then desperate to go to sleep by 6pm (it's a fight to keep him awake from about 4pm) and sleeping through to 10 the next day. Sometimes it's like he's too tired to eat or drink but after he wakes up he'll happily eat breakfast or dinner- so it seems to be total exhaustion. Today he's cried for a nap after being awake for 2 hrs and during that time he only wanted to cuddle up on my knee - no interest in playing etc.

At what point would you go back to the gp to query the tiredness? I'm wondering if something else is working on him but hasn't shown itself yet like hfm but as I say overly tired and cranky is the only symptoms now?

I'd want to see a GP today or tomorrow.

The lethargy and losing interest in playing are flags to seek medical attention.

Doctors would rather see a young child and be able to tell you he's fine. You won't be wasting anyone's time.

I agree with PP I would have him seen again asap, lethargy and lack of interest in engaging is not something to be ignored.
