Norovirus

Picked daughter up from nursery yesterday and she was sick almost straight away. Norovirus is rife just now at nursery so was expecting it at some point.

She was sick 5 times yesterday starting about 1pm and last time at 10pm last night no diarrhoea. She’s been fine in herself today, had some toast and soup and drank plenty just a little tired but seems to be about 90% ok again.

I know no one can wave a magic wand but what’s the chances of catching it? I had it last year and it was horrendous but it started quite quickly after daughter’s symptoms started. Now about 30 hours from her 1st symptoms and I feel absolutely fine but don’t want to get my hopes up 😩 and equally if it is going to happen I want it to start just now so I’m not down for Christmas 😂.

Why are they so much more resilient than us? 😂

You could be immune or catch it a few days later. Sometimes you can catch a bug of a child sometimes you don't.

My 6 year old came home from school last Wednesday with a tummy ache. He was off school the rest of the week but just tummy ache no sickness or diarrhoea. Then my 2 year old vomited on Friday night, several times and a few times until about 7.30pm on Saturday. She was very poorly. My 10 year old hasn’t caught it, neither has DP but I’ve felt ropey since Monday. No sickness or anything but just a very queasy stomach. So even if you do catch it it doesn’t mean it will be horrendous.

Incubation period is up to a couple of days, with an average of 33 hours I believe.

I had awful Norovirus in October but none of my family (dh and two kids) caught it. I was able to pretty much quarantine tho (although slept in same bed as DH every night). We don't tend to spread sickness bugs to each other in this house. Well, dh of 15 years has never had one and think the kids have had one or two each and they're 11 and 14 ! So we're lucky.

Fingers crossed you don't get it!

Could be rotavirus? Adults tend to develop more immunity with that strand of sickness.

Thanks everyone. She was sick all
over the car yesterday and was sleeping next to me all last night and breathing in my face all night so been no way of avoiding passing on the germs but hoping I don’t catch it which I know there is probably less of a chance of than actually catching it but praying for a Christmas miracle! Lol.

Husbands not caught anything yet either but has tried keeping his distance as has a huge meeting at work on Monday he can’t afford to miss but will be just the thing we will come down with it Sunday night!

@PippetyPoppetyPie hope you and the family are feeling better soon!
