Sores on 5 year old

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help tell me what this is.. I have been to the pharmacy 3 times, a walk in care centre, GP and A&E and no one will tell me what it is or do any tests.. 2 weeks ago she had a small scab on her leg which got infected. We had antibiotics for this and it cleared up.. however in the past week we have had a lot more sores develop and they get really big.. she had an on and off fever, leg pain, neck pain (which has gone now). She seems fine in herself, eating slightly less but not fully off food. Please has anyone had this before? I will try and add photos

This is a new one she developed over night.. just not sure if it is classed as an emergency. Might have to go back to walk in

I'm furious on your behalf, OP.

With the red area spreading around the sores, I would go to A&E asap.

I'm surprised (appalled) the GP receptionist wouldn't let you at least see a nurse.
I would complain to the Practice Manager (when this is all over).

LoafofSellotape · 10/12/2024 15:48

Ring 111 and they'll book you an appt.

Sistertwo · 10/12/2024 15:52

When my son had a similar thing it was a fungal infection in the end....

namechanged246 · 10/12/2024 15:55

@Sistertwo they mentioned that a few weeks ago which she had antibiotics for as it was infected.. since then they have said they don't know

@villagecrafts honestly I have seen around 9 medical professionals who haven't been able to tell me!

@LoafofSellotape we've done 111 who said to go to the pharmacy and they will let me know

Good grief 🙄Urgent care then!

RubyRedBow · 10/12/2024 17:57

Are they only appearing over night? It looks like she’s been scratching them?

I would definitely go and see a pharmacist as they are offen good at helping when you get nowhere else.

namechanged246 · 09/12/2024 20:57

@nocoolnamesleft no they wouldn't swab her, said only if it spreads.

Surely if 3 more came up it's spread?

namechanged246 · 10/12/2024 18:54

@RubyRedBow we've been to 3 pharmacies, 2 GPs, urgent care and referred to a&e twice!

Now sat back in a&e as she has a rash not disappearing with a glass

One of them looks almost like a stretch mark that's split. I've never seen anything like it. Possibly EB but that's normally obvious from birth. Is her skin fragile generally? Does she cut herself or graze easily when playing? But EB wouldn't cause a fever unless the sores were very infected. Her immune system is clearly actively fighting something. Have they taken bloods?

I'd experiment a little. Try as soon as they start to appear, spray with silver spray. Alfasilver or similar. You get it from boots or amazon, any pharmacy will carry it. It's antibacterial and antifungal so if it's a localised skin infection it will help and might stop them opening up. Also acts as a kind of spray on dressing keeping it clean. I use it for sores on my scalp (and when my idiot horse hurts himself) but mine are self inflicted.

The ones already open I'd slather in antiseptic cream, the last thing she wants is an infection.

RubyRedBow · 10/12/2024 19:15

Hope you get some answers.

Nightvax · 10/12/2024 19:20

Poor love, no idea what it could be but echo the advice of others to keep on, I know some medical providers make you feel awful but at some point you will encounter someone who really cares and will actually be helpful!

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 10/12/2024 19:37

Do they appear as blisters to begin with? Does she have any mouth ulcers?

khaa2091 · 10/12/2024 19:47

Not a dermatologist, but I would wonder if it was erythema multiforme?
it can occur as a reaction to antibiotics or just as a virus .
it is normally just treated with antihistamines. Have you tried Piriton?

I agree that you should see the GP

Poor little thing, hoping you get some answers @namechanged246.

Typerighter · 10/12/2024 20:22

My DD had impetigo like that, she'd wake up with more sores all over her back.

Hope you work out what it is and get treatment asap.

Home now, the rash was ok.. he's put a referral to the dermatologist, and given me somewhere where I can get bloods tomorrow. So hopefully will find out as it's really spreading now

Good luck OP. Skin issues can be so difficult to diagnose and so sore.

Scutterbug · 10/12/2024 21:54

Poor thing, I hope they get to the bottom of it.

Babyshambles90 · 10/12/2024 22:02

You might want to look up positive Nikolsky sign, OP. To me, it looks like the skin is rubbing, then forming open sores which is a strong indicator for one of the range of conditions linked to a positive Nikolsky sign. Some are mild, some are more serious, many can be effectively treated by steroids or similar strategies. Quite a few can be triggered or worsened by antibiotics, and they do often align with fevers. I am staggered that none of the medical professionals you have seen have investigated more carefully; hopefully it’s just one of those weird things kids do and it’ll stop as quick as it started, but next time she spikes a fever I would be camping out in a&e and really pushing for a proper review. It’s so tough, no one listens and you end up being made to feel neurotic but you are not being. Very best of luck.

Hi OP. One of my DCs had Steven's-Johnson-Syndrome. It's often a very serious disease and so my DC was very lucky that it was a 'mild' case (although they were pretty unwell and were hospitalised, briefly, because of the diagnosis).

Your daughter's skin reminds me of this and I wonder if the doctors have considered this (or similar skin conditions).

Are her lips and eyes normal?

namechanged246 · 11/12/2024 16:25

@NameChanges123 hi, that sounds awfully scary! Her lips and eyes are fine, she doesn't seem unwell now, she had a fever for around 4 days and not had one since Sunday

Have bloods booked for next Wednesday so hopefully will see if there is anything going on
