Sores on 5 year old

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help tell me what this is.. I have been to the pharmacy 3 times, a walk in care centre, GP and A&E and no one will tell me what it is or do any tests.. 2 weeks ago she had a small scab on her leg which got infected. We had antibiotics for this and it cleared up.. however in the past week we have had a lot more sores develop and they get really big.. she had an on and off fever, leg pain, neck pain (which has gone now). She seems fine in herself, eating slightly less but not fully off food. Please has anyone had this before? I will try and add photos

They start as spot type thing which then turn into sores within around 6 hours.. she now has one behind her ear also

Epidermolysis Bullosa - Butterfly skin.

I could be completely wrong but that is the first thing that came to mind.

I hope you get to the bottom of it. Push to be seen by a dermatologist.

AlteredStater · 09/12/2024 15:50

I'm not a doctor but that would concern me because the skin lesions are accompanied by fever and feeling unwell, which suggests to me the immune system is involved somehow and that it's more than 'just' a superficial skin thing. I would push for tests and as the PP says, to be seen by a dermatologist.

dairydebris · 09/12/2024 15:57

Push for immediate GP, minor injuries or even A and E. I know some might think that's a bit much but skin infections with fevers would make me concerned about cellulitis or even head towards sepsis. Unexplained fevers can go bad quickly. Sorry. I hope she's fine.

Thank you everyone. I have already been to an urgent care and a&e who have said I've caught it too early and need to wait and see what happens.. however I just think it's really odd and noones told me what it could be yet! I have a gp appointment tomorrow so will go to that. Just wondered what others thought

Could possibly be impetigo. I hope you get a proper diagnosis and treatment soon.

namechanged246 · 09/12/2024 16:14

Thank you, I've been told it's not impetigo.. well so far anyway! It's been a week now with no confirmation of what it is and it's just getting worse!

@dairydebris she had sinusitis last year which turned into a sepsis type infection which is why I'm concerned

I have been in to a and e twice and minor injuries once only to be fobbed off and accused of time wasting. Despite her temp being 39.3 at the time.
Any ideas on how I can persuade them to take it seriously?

Maybe insist on bloods?
That was the only time Dr's realized something serious was up with one of mine.

namechanged246 · 09/12/2024 16:29

@dairydebris I have tried, and they have been so rude to me and said because she is eating and not really lethargic then they don't need to do them and that I should go the pharmacy🙄obviously they couldn't do anything. Fingers crossed I find out tomorrow!

Oh God, I'm sorry, it's so frustrating. Same with one of mine, everytime we were at the gp they presented ok, although 2h later they looked different. I'd insist calmly that you know her best, you know something is off, you want bloods taken and investigated. Good Luck xxx

villagecrafts · 09/12/2024 17:20

When my child had impetigo they first told me it was chickenpox and to dab the sores with Calamine lotion. So consequently it quickly spread all over her body. I'm still upset about it 30 years later.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/12/2024 18:24

Doesn't look like impetigo at all. I'd be taking he back until you get answers, that looks so sore.

Baxterbaxter · 09/12/2024 18:53

Do you have a different A&E you could go to? I would be very concerned as they look very sore. Poor kid. I would, as another pp said, insist on bloods. Has anyone else in the household had similar?

namechanged246 · 09/12/2024 20:03

I have another a&e but they get so annoyed if you go to them if you have an a&e that is closer.. she has said they're not sore and they don't itch, but they're appearing so quickly! Every morning she has a new one, and developed another within 3 hours today

OP posts:
namechanged246 · 09/12/2024 20:05

@Baxterbaxter no, no one else has anything

OP posts:
nocoolnamesleft · 09/12/2024 20:11

Has anyone swabbed them for bacteria? Because I would be wondering about atypical impetigo, and that could prove it.

namechanged246 · 09/12/2024 20:57

@nocoolnamesleft no they wouldn't swab her, said only if it spreads.

OP posts:
DecayingRelic · 10/12/2024 09:36

I really do not know what the frig is wrong with medics nowadays, they do not want to help people and seems like their only job in life is to fob people off, I have seen it time and time again and been on the receiving end myself, it makes me really angry and sad🙄

Well, it has spread so urgent GP appt and ask to be swabbed. You're going to have to keep going back until they deal with it.

namechanged246 · 10/12/2024 12:38

@LoafofSellotape we had a gp appointment today, who has now said the gp has booked me into the wrong place, and I need to make another appointment with my gp at my gp practice.. they have no appointments for today and they have told me to ring at 8am.. which means I probably won't get an appointment tomorrow either!!

That's shocking, OP. Could you turn up there and insist on at least seeing a nurse?

namechanged246 · 10/12/2024 13:41

@villagecrafts I just went there and told them what had happened and said I want an appointment and they said I have to call tomorrow at 8am and there's nothing they can do
