My cat has scratched my 10 week old baby on top of his head, have washed and contacted 111 is there anything else I should do? Will it scar?

Savlon on scratch. Keep an eye on to check no reaction.

Baby's skin will have no scar.

You need to think how to prevent this happening again though x

I wouldn't worry too much. It happens. We had 6 cats when ds was born, he's had multiple scratches over the years that have left no trace!

So many questions

  1. why did you allow your cat to be that close to your 10 week old baby?
  2. why did you call 111 for a scratch?

Unless it’s really deep (so more of a cut than a scratch) or it’s infected then it will be fine, it will heal on its own.

But why did your cat scratch your baby? Accident due to a clumsy cat, or on purpose?

Skin heals. Make sure the wound is clean and FGS supervise your pets around a tiny infant that they are not used to and makes loud noises that spook animals.

Is it a deep scratch? Why call 111

Keep it moist with Vaseline while it heals to help avoid a scar. Then if there’s anything to be seen move to a silicone scar gel.

I know cats are a bit different infection wise to dogs, so can't advise on that part.

However my dog scratched my babies head when she was around 5 weeks old. She was a prem baby and only just home from NICU and I felt terrible. But accidents happen, I'm sure (like me) you feel bad enough and people coming here and telling you that you shouldn't have let it happen isn't very helpful. In my case baby had been on playmat for a while and dog just moved and stretched (with her long limbs) and it happened so fast! Within 2 days there was nothing to see for it so I'm sure your baby will be fine, their skin heals so well!
