Glue ear, speech delay and private grommets

Hi all,

Has anybody paid for grommets privately and what was your experience please?

My son has speech delay due to glue ear. He began talking at 10 months (mummy, daddy, cat) but completely regressed after repeated ear infections and is still not speaking at 2 years old. He just babbles or doesn’t speak at all now.

The waiting list in my area for grommets on the NHS is 1.5- 2 years and I am really concerned about long term implications on his development if this isn’t dealt with soon.

Thanks in advance x

Try cranial osteopathy first. My son had glue ear as a toddler, as did I. I had grommets for most of my childhood (until I was about 17) and still have bad ears now. My son saw a cranial osteopath and we watched and waited. He grew out of it and didn’t have any further problems.

My dd had glue ear, we tried a cranial osteopath and I think it was a complete waste of money tbh 🤷‍♀️

It absolutely didn't work and the osteopath just said my dd was a bad case 🙄

My dd had grommets twice, once when she was 2.6yo and again at 4.

What I would say is it helps in the short term but my dds grommets fell out after 6months to a year both times.

In the end hearing aids worked much better.
