MMR Delayed Side Effects - Fever

Hoping to gather the collective knowledge on this one. DS had his MMR on 8th November and last Friday (1 week after) he developed a fever of about 38.5 C and wanted to sleep a lot. All very normal as per the side effects info...but it has continued. We are now on day 4 of fever and he is still sleepy and miserable. Crying and grumpy, hands in mouth a lot (teething? Who knows...) Most information I can find indicates the MMR fever should have resolved in 2-3 days? Anyone else's DC have the MMR fever going on a bit? He did have the faintest of pink rash on his trunk yesterday, but that seems to have faded.

He has a snotty nose and slightly chesty cough, so have booked GP appointment for this afternoon. The fever is easily controlled with calpol or baby ibuprofen, but obviously want to see a resolution soon. Keeping him off nursery and I have taken the day off work, I just want to get him better. It seems a bit much for jab side effects at this point. 🙁

If he has cough, snotty nose and fever, more likely to be a fresh virus - tis the season!

Hello There,

Sorry but I just needed to ask how your child is doing as my DS also has the exact same symptoms but fever started about 5 days after the One year MMR and it's 5 days now of fever.

He's also snotty and coughing and had a mild rash on the face which healed with scabbing. He's quite miserable when febrile but fever does come down easily with Ibuprofen and Calpol. So just wanting some reassurance. Will otherwise take him to Paeds outpatient today.

In the end it turned out that my DS had bacterial tonsillitis plus a potential ear infection and had to go on antibiotics. Consequently we were never sure what were the side effects from the MMR and what was the tonsillitis kicking in. Would definitely recommend getting your DS checked out if the fever carries on, it could be an infection. Hope he gets better soon!
