16 MO very grumpy, more sleepy but no obvious illness?

As the title says for the last week 16MO really grumpy, tires easily and waking in the night crying and difficult to settle unless being rocked / held. No obvious illness, molars are about half way through. Calpol / nurofen don’t seem to make a difference.

I have no idea what’s going on or what to do. It’s so hard as they’ve turned into a Velcro baby and don’t want to be put down for 80% of the day. For context today has had 2.5 hours worth of sleep broken throughout the day where they normally have half of that and then crashed 45 mins earlier for bed but probably would have gone earlier.

Is it a phase, anything I’m missing? DC1 never had this without any obvious illness and don’t want to see like I’m wasting NHS time for a grumpy child

If they are eating/drinking/playing/toileting I wouldn’t worry but keep an eye on it.

The three most likely explanations are virus, teething or tiredness.

Edited to add: The only other option is to go to a GP if you feel there is cause for concern. No one online can tell you, sadly, as only you can see the baby!

Thanks both.

We all woke up yesterday with a stinking cold and cough so must have been brewing for the week! Hopefully onwards and upwards as we go on holiday at weekend.
