What could this rash be?

My 4 yo DS has come up with this rash this evening (currently waiting on call back from out of hours - in NI so we don't have 111). Photo isn't showing how clearly defined it is. Very clear defined red lines, almost in hexagon shapes touching together.

He's been a bit out of sorts for a few days - a big clingier than usual but no temps and no other symptoms/pain/itchiness.

No cuts, grazes or other broken skin.

Disappears under a tumbler

Sounds like the "lacy" rash from Fifth Disease. Does he also have red cheeks?

Whatcouldthisbe11 · 08/11/2024 20:13

Not at the minute but this rash has appeared very quickly so maybe the cheeks will follow?

That’s how my DS and I look when we have a fever- comes up across our bodies. Does he have a fever now?

Whatcouldthisbe11 · 08/11/2024 20:23

He says he feels a bit warm but thermometer is showing 37.5 at the minute so not fever level. He just says he feels funny, but appetite and drinking has been fine, isn't feeling bokey, no cold/flu symptoms other than being a bit warm, nothing sore. No rashes anywhere else

I looked up that fifth disease rash and it's definitely more defined than that- it's as defined as the ringworm rash, except hexagon shaped instead of round and the pattern repeats itself. It's definitely a rash and not an injury from leaning against something etc

Looks like ringworm to me.

Speckled rash now coming up on tummy and chest, phoned out of hours again to update on change but still waiting for the doctor to phone

Sounds like slapped cheek/fifth disease. My DS had it over the summer. We didn't realise what it was at first because the facial rash was the last bit to appear. Has your DC had any cold symptoms beforehand? The rash appears at the end and only once they're no longer contagious, although our GP told us that it can coincide with a fever.
