Coughing, when to worry? - 2 year old

Hi everyone,

I posted on here a few days ago, my son has had a high temperature and fever which has now resulted in an awful mucusy cough. He is coughing every 3-5 minutes and going red in the face to the point he looks as if he might throw up. It is really bothering him, he isn't getting much sleep, not eating well still cannot breathe through his nose, I feel absolutely useless. I am still giving him call but that isn't helping with the cough at all. Should I be concerned about how often he is coughing or is this normal after a bad cold/ flu? He keeps looking at me as if to say 'Help' and it's breaking my heart. What can I do? I have tried the Calpol plug in, sitting him up straight, tapping and rubbing his back, nothing I do is helping :(
I am so stuck on if I should go doctors, go pharmacy, or just keep doing as I am. I get so worried about wasting doctors time if it's not serious and is just a cough. I've already spoke to 111 twice and they have just advised me to care for him at home, I just feel useless that I can't help his awful cough that is bothering him so much :( x

Call your GP and ask for a same day appointment poor mite

If he’s not himself, not eating etc I’d call the doctors. He’s still so little they should see him . Even if it’s just to put your mind at ease! They might just be able to do a telephone conversation. Is he drinking enough?

edit
actually- they’d probably want to listen to his chest? So going in would be better for him

@Pinkelephant66 he is drinking water still which I am happy about, not as much as he usually would but it's enough. He did have a bag of waivers just now but I know that's not enough :( his cough is worrying me so much. Only problem is I need to register with the doctors, only moved 2 weeks ago to a completely new location, I did call them for an emergency appointment but they said I need to register first! You would think a 2 year old in desperate need wouldn't need to register in this moment to be seen, terrible really. I am waiting for my husband to get back from work so I can get him registered asap. I just hope they will see him tomorrow if I call then to book an emergency appointment!

That’s good he’s staying hydrated.

yes that does seem very strange! Especially for a very young child. Hopefully you’ll just have to fill in the paperwork and he can be seen asap after that. It’s horrible when kids are ill
