Why are my child’s teeth like this?

My DC is 6. Adult teeth are present now in the mouth. We brush twice a day. No sugar overload, a varied balanced diet. However, the teeth almost look uncared for. They are so yellow looking and the adult teeth have been in for a good few months. There’s a yellow spot(hard to see on photo) that’s on her front tooth too. Brushing techniques seem all good so I’m so unsure why this is. Not due a check up for another couple of months but just thought I’d ask advice in the meantime.
Thank you!

My 7yo front teeth are like this. The dentist called it demineralisation (iirc) and we use sensodyne enamel repair toothpaste (as instructed by him) which has really helped. I'll see if I have a photo. He's in bed now but I'll take a pic tomorrow if I can't find one now.

Ps, sorry I meant to say it's nothing you have or haven't done so please don't worry. Was your dad born prem by any chance or a low birth weight?

My daughter’s are like this.
The dentist feels it’s related to repeat antibiotic use when she was 2-4 ish and had lots of uti’s and ear infections.
i was really upset initially, but she is fine and not bothered by it

My eight year olds teeth are similar and the dentist isn’t concerned at all. It’s interesting that a certain toothpaste might help. No one has said this to me.

Antibiotic use did this to my teeth. In the end, I had my bottom teeth whitened.

That’s good to know for the future! Thank you ☺️

Ah that's interesting @Twinwife, both my twins have had an awful lot of ABs during their nearly 8 years what with repeated bouts of tonsillitis and a zillion ear infections. Are your daughter's affected teeth sensitive at all?

bishbashboshjobsagoodun · 06/11/2024 20:56

Definitely think there's some connection to ABs after reading these comments!

Antibiotics did this to mine. I had about 4 ear infections a year growing up..antibiotics every time. My teeth aren't as bad as they were when younger but mine very much looked like the picture you've attached compared to my 3 siblings and parents that all have amazing teeth and rarely had antibiotics!

Apparsntly antibiotics in pregnancy can cause this too.

They don’t seem to be sensitive. Just look yellow and mottled! Her back molar looks like a piece of popcorn. The dentist does pop some kind of paste on it here and there. I think to help with mineralisation

That could be dental hypoplasia if yellow and mottled. My dd6 has this in her 2 upper 6 molars.
