Tonsillitis in baby?

My DS who is 6 months old has got tonsillitis, a doctor diagnosed and prescribed antibiotics on Friday. Before this he had a fever for 4 days on and off which spiked to 38.7, was very irritable and crying a lot, off bottles, waking in the night etc. I had presumed it was teething.

What can I do to ease his discomfort? We haven’t started weaning yet as I was planning to start this week but don’t want him to associate solids with pain. Can I give him anything other than calpol and nurofen? He’s really off his food and he’s only tiny anyway. I didn’t actually know babies could get tonsillitis.
