I'm freaking out my child's nursery has had 2 confirmed cases of impetigo my son has been ill for ages now near enough 2 weeks started as a cough and a cold that seemed to be getting better then over night got poorly again and has come out in the awful rash and around his mouth is the worst (inserted some pics) went to the docs today and he told me it's just a viral rash he has a viral infection he'll get better soon gave me nothing for him understandable there's no medicine to treat viral infections but just worried because the rash has flared up more since being at the doctors he did say it might get worse just seems like my son can't catch a break he's ill all the time bless him but does this look like anything to be worried about do youse think?
The rash is under arm pits along his forearms and the back of his legs and weirdly on his bum but the doctor said it's nappy rash but my son never suffers with nappy rash I know definitely it's this "viral rash"

That looks like hand, foot and mouth more than impetigo. Don't be confused by the name as the rash can appear anywhere and is very common on the bum area.

MassiveSalad22 · 15/10/2024 19:48

Yup, looks nothing like impetigo and very much like HFM.

seaduck · 15/10/2024 19:51

Yeah not impetigo. Impetigo is often crusty like cold sores and not as widespread as that

pinkpantherxxx · 15/10/2024 19:54

But are these red spots in his mouth a normal thing or should I be worried I mean I'm worried anyway aww I just want him to be better :(

THATS hand foot and mouth especially with the mouth rash

Nothing can be done just fluids, rest and handwashing

MassiveSalad22 · 15/10/2024 19:57

Aw poor little thing, it does look like a nasty case. But he will be better in no time!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 15/10/2024 20:35

It looks like text book HFM, nothing like impetigo.

Ana absolutely text book case. He may get mouth ulcers as well as the spots.

Calpol, ibuprofen and lots to drink and ice lollies to help with the mouth pain. And lots of cuddles and rest.

Christmastinsel78 · 16/10/2024 07:09

That's HFM plenty of fluids and calpol

FireMyLogs · 16/10/2024 07:17

Definitely looks like HFM, have a google and go to the images and you will see that raised rash round your poor son's mouth is classic. I would get to a pharmacy today and ask them what you can do. As he is so young it is best to get their advice.

Thankyou guys for your reply's and any advice youse have give it means a lot this is how his rash is looking this morning it looks worse than last night I think

The thing that is bothering me is he's had HFM before and that was the typical mouth ulcers he had big yellow ones on his tongue he had these greyish blisters all over his hands and feet and a horrible rash from his bum but it didn't really spread round his body like this whereas now his rash is just looking like red spots not blisters and the rash around his mouth and on his arms are scabbing over like yellow scabs I'm not sure what's going on it could be HFM but I'm fearing all sorts like measles or something worse in him a ring the doctors again today as I feel like something has been missed or looked over no disrespect to the doctors that seen us yesterday but we all know our kids better than anyone I know for a face he's has viral rashes before but nothing like this

Also does anyone see this faint rash on his foot?

That still looks like textbook HFM to me. My daughter when younger looked exactly the same and had a viral rash on top which is what your child looks like they have.

How did it go op ? X

So we went to the doctors at about 5pm the doctor asked me to strip my son to take a look at his rash on his body baring in mind I've been at work all day so when I see the rash I go "oh wow that's got worse since I last seen it" and I asked if it was Impetigo the doctor didn't sound too sure but said it couldn't very well be that he did suspect HFM at first I think because he asked is it on his hands/feet but took his sock off and funnily enough the rash is spread all over except hands and feet😂so overall he gave me some antibiotics amoxicillin because he does suspect for sure that it is a bacterial infection so thankyou guys lol panick over he'll be better in no time he was also given some cream for his rash around his mouth forgot what that was called tho xxxxx
