Constipation - cosmocol not really working

My 4 year old DS has been on cosmocol paediatric for the last 6 months. We’re giving 2 sachets a day, and it’s still not keeping him regular but he is complaining that his bum is sore (and we can see irritation) so don’t want to increase to 3. Gp was pretty useless. We’re giving him prunes, plenty of liquids, a good varied diet and he’s super active.

his constipation doesn’t cause him any pain but results in lots of small poo accidents if he doesn’t have a decent size poo a day. Hes not withholding and there’s no fear about using the toilet.

any suggestions or things that have worked for you?

Why don't you want to increase the dose? I'm sure the doctor would advise that or a switch to a different softener like lactulose which is a liquid/syrup rather than powder. The fact that he's having accidents shows he's still backed up. Were you ever advised to do a disimpaction regime to start with?

If he's having accidents, sounds like he needs a full disimpaction. Have a look on www.eric.org.uk
