Hand foot and mouth

My little boy, 2, has hand foot and mouth. I first noticed little red marks on his lip on Saturday but I thought he had bitten his lip as he was perfectly well - no fever and eating and drinking ok. By Sunday morning when I changed him his bum was covered in spots where there had been none the prior night which prompted me to check his hands and feet a and sure enough there were spots, not a lot mind you and he had ulcers on his tongue.

he seems generally ok, no fever and drinking ok, eating is not but that’s ok, however his mouth is painful for him and he won’t take medicine (we tried, he gagged and vomit we everywhere!) as I assume the medicine hurts his mouth (ironically).

how long do the ulcers last generally? If it wasn’t for them he would be ok… I know the mouth can heal quickly usually but is that the case with this? Will the ulcers vanish before the hand/feet spots?

We're currently in the middle of hand foot and mouth with our 16 month old, we were admitted to hospital last night as he had a bad fever and wasn't drinking. Same scenario with medicine wasn't wanting to take it. We managed to get him to take some fluids, we have been mixing medicine in with yogurts, in his water etc might be worth a try, we got given benzodiazepine hydrochloride spray, to spray in with mouth every hour or so I think it numbs it. I'm sure you can ask your local chemist for it x
