Threadworms 🤢

My kid has brought threadworms home from school!
Please can you let me know how far to go with cleaning etc to prevent reinfection. And also is this futile when they're going to school now?
So far I have changed the beds daily, bathe the kids in the morning. They are still in nappies at night so not able to itch. Towels one use then wash.
Hoovered and wiped some surfaces. Washed their fave cuddle toy. I cannot even think about cleaning all the toys 🤯
My husband thinks I'm already being too over the top.
Help please! Have you less thorough and they haven't returned? I think we'll take ovex again in two weeks anyway.
Thanks 🙏

I agree with DH.

Agree with your DH. Take the meds and forget about it now.

The meds are very effective. It will be fine.

Pikachupip · 12/10/2024 10:02

Ok well thanks to you guys maybe I'll ease off.

I have read the guidelines on the NHS and they say we should do all we have been doing as they lay eggs around the bum at night 🤢 and the eggs can survive our of the body for 2 weeks. So if the eggs get into our system again they'd be reinfected.

My DD had them a few times. I washed all bedding in a hot wash, the couple of soft toys she has on her bed, and only used her towel once before washing. Took the meds, and job done.

Pikachupip · 12/10/2024 10:09

Thanks @user84749201 did you just do the beds once? And how long did you do the one use towel thing?

You must do it in two weeks cause the medication doesn't kill the eggs.

@Pikachupip late to the thread but did you manage to get rid?
