Is this chicken pox?

8mo woke up this morning with a couple of red marks on his chest. Didn’t think anything of it as he is dribbling like crazy, presumed teething rash!
Took him to nursery, he’s been super well in himself, however they said more sicky than usual and loose poos. However they called me to pick him up as these spots had spread. The nursery first aider presumed chicken pox. Would you say this looks like chicken pox? He has an older brother who’s shown no signs… yet!
Other symptoms include :
-being on and off unwell with runny nose/ cough for the last 2 weeks but generally really happy in himself. Just presumed he was picking up back to back bugs as he’s only just joined nursery a week ago and I noticed most of the kids were coughing or had lovely green slime coming from their nose (bless them)

also sticking his fingers down his throat and gagging, being off his milk a little more.

It’s on his shoulder, under his armpit and a couple on his lower tummy

Looks a bit like it. Are they fluid filled?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/10/2024 21:34

my understanding is chicken pox starts on the torso then spreads out.
When we were unsure if our eldest had chickenpox the dr said, give it a couple of days and you’ll know.

It certainly seems likely. Honestly if it's chicken pox you'll know by the morning as he will wake up with a lot more.

@DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace hm I wouldn’t say Fluid filled. Just like red spots which started under skin and now becoming raised in the very middle

I think by morning you'll be able to see if they're fluid filled, and then you'll be able to tell.

Thanks all! This is all new to me. I just presumed they’d come up as blisters straight away. Will speak to docs in morning to confirm!x

No, they'll come up as red spots that will get fluid in them, then slowly they'll all blister over.

Just checked on him now, stripped him off and no more spots and the ones pictured have not changed 🧐
