Never ending HFM

Hi all!

sorry to add to the abundance of HFM posts! I’ve got twin girls (14 months) who seemed to have gotten a case of HFM. Their second case in just over 2 months 😩

they haven’t stopped crying / whinging for 4 days now. Me and DH are pretty much running on about 2 hours sleep a night as neither twin will settle or sleep for more than 45 mins at a time. They seem to be refusing to eat also. We’ve tried everything!

feel awful that they’re obviously in pain but gosh I feel at the end of my rope! I had a very rough time with them as newborns and colic so I’m afraid it’s bringing back some very awful memories and feelings!

wondering how long I should expect to see an improvement as this seems 10x worse than when they first had it! Thanks for any advice!

Hi! I hope your twins improved shortly after your post! My twins (16 months) currently have HFM and I’m exhausted.
We’ve been lucky up to now they’ve usually been great sleepers- until HFM! It’s the middle of the night and I’ve been up for over 2 hours already trying to get them back to sleep. They’re happy in the day time, just get upset about going for a nap but tend to take one or both naps but not for as long as before. That I’m not too stressed about but the night times are (for me based on how they normally are) are horrible.
Their symptoms seem to be easing but they’re just totally irrational and inconsolable at night if and when they wake! One twin had it before the other and seemed ok but has now started to be the worse of the two at night and wakes the other (share a room separate cots). After over 2 hours of dummy and teddy tossing (needs both to sleep and instantly cries when gone), shouting and chatting to everyone real or imaginary finally they’ve gone to sleep.

When did your sleep situation improve? Because it’s almost been a week for my first twin and they’re the one that despite skin clearing etc has gotten worse at night! And had me joining mumsnet at 4am :)

They’ve had flus and norovirus (we had it at the same time too) and I honestly think I got more sleep then than I have this week!
