14yo DD suspected thrush - should GP have tested?

DD has been complaining of an itchy discharge and the GP prescribed Canesten after I submitted an online form describing the symptoms.

I'm just wondering if the GP should have seen DD, or at least asked a few questions, before prescribing. I know you can buy Canesten over the counter but the NHS website recommends seeing your GP if you experience thrush symptoms for the first time, and if you're under 16. It says the GP "will want to confirm it's thrush and rule out other infections".

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or any experiences with a similar issue in young teenagers? I guess we'll just have to see if the Canesten helps...
