Hi everybody, just posting on her for some advice if any of you could help. My DS, 1 year old is on co-amoxiclav for chest infection and ear infection, has been on this 4 days currently, course ends tomorrow. He suffered terribly at the start of this infection with high temp, ranging from 38.8-40.1, reducing with calpol. I’ve noticed today that his temperature today has dropped to 35.6 highest has been 36.1, he was cool to touch through the day, no rash, no mottled skin, appetite is back, is this normal at the end of an infection? Just checked him while he is asleep now and is again 35.6, but feels warm to touch! Thanks in advance

This used to happen to my son at the end of a bad fever, it would only last around 24-36hrs and I would base it on his presentation - by this stage he would be drinking plenty, happier in himself and showing energy. If those hadn't been the case or it lasted any longer I would have sought medical attention. It did used to freak me out and I would continued to keep a close eye on his temp during this period until it returned to normal 36.5-37.2

Thanks so much for replying! He woke up and is so much better this morning, a lot happier and temp is back to normal 36.6! I’ve never heard of temperature dropping at the end of a fever! So strange

Glad to hear he's feeling better and reading normal temps now. I'd never heard of it either, it's happened to my son a few times (he's now 10), usually at the end of a higher or more persistent fever it seemed to happen.
