Brain cyst

So my 11 year old son has been struggling his balance lately. He had one episode over summer and it has now been consistent since last Wednesday. He is sometimes able to walk ok and others he's walking like a drunk. His memory isn't as good and he's struggling to concentrate. He's had a mild headache and tummy ache too.
Last week the hospital said post viral. Yesterday they admitted him to do a fast mri.
We've been allowed home on 'leave' and I've had a call today to say they've found a cyst on his brain. They seem to think it's in a place that doesn't match with his symptoms. He's going back in Thursday to see the consultant and he will have an in depth mri with contrast dye in a few weeks time.
They don't seem to be rushing things or be overly concerned but my head is going wild.
My youngest had brain bleeds at birth that turned into cysts but they resolved within a few years.
Has anybody experience anything similar to my son with their children?
Please help calm me down xx

Hi Lemon, I understand what you're going through. My son had a brain tumour which itself was partly cystic. Are you seeing a neurosurgeon on Thurs? Why are they waiting a few weeks for the follow up MRI? I would push to bring it forward. Was he seen at a large hospital?

We are seeing a consultant Thursday who is the one that saw him in hospital yesterday.
They've said the wait for a detailed scan is a few weeks.

Thursday is a quick response.

We've just been told my son has a cyst and told he will have a follow up in December.

Obviously not great but I guess he has no Symptoms other than headaches. I need to chase and push for mri.

Hope your son is ok it's very stressful.

There is support pages online that I've accessed.

He's been seen twice in the hospital pacu and is still technically an in patient allowed home on leave. So he's seeing the consultant who saw him Monday while he's still on the ward. They want to review his symptoms. He's not improved at all. Still very unsteady on his feet and now has a new headache too.

Massive worry for you. Do you know how big the cyst is?

They are thinking he may have fnd.
The cyst is front right and small. Need an mri and eeg to rule out anything else going on.

I have fnd and a 2.5 cm Cyst on my pineal gland..... Also have bad balance.....

nottodaynortomorrow · 26/09/2024 23:52

Apologies if I am wrong tho I thought fnd was diagnosed when symptoms cannot be explained by changes in the brain structure?

Surely the cysts, are abnormal brain pathology which change the brain in some way?

Tests are still ongoing but it's likely to be fnd. The cyst is small and in a part of the brain that does not explain the symptoms he's having.
