Sacral dimple with hairy tuft

My 10month old has a dimple at the top of his sacrum and a hairy tuft since birth. Should I be worried? Read about Spina Bifida. Picture for reference. Thank you.

Both of my kids aged 7 and 3 have this. When they were checked as newborns at the hospital, the Dr's noted it but said as the end is seen then no problem. Both my two are absolutely fine and hasn't caused any problems. However if you are concerned then it is always worth checking with your GP.

Thank you. We have an appointment but not for a month. It’s never been noticed or picked up before. I noticed the dimple so googled then mentioned tuft of hair I freaked out.

It's strange it hasn't been picked up before by a Dr before now. I wouldn't say that was a tuft of hair. From what I've read it seems like it's only a concern if the hair is coming out of the dimple, whereas in your picture it just looks like it's growing around it. My ds was pretty hairy as a baby and he's lost his body hair as he's got older. Best to get it checked though if nothing more than to put you at ease.

Thank you so much. He only has that bit of hair he was born with it he isnt hairy anywhere else. His daddy is hairy though 😂

My youngest DS was born with one, I'd never heard of it before.

His was deep & the end could not be seen, so as you can imagine my mind was going crazy Confused

He ended up having an ultrasound on his spine, but, 14 years later, he is a very healthy boy! Smile

DRs said his was an extremely deep one but all was fine Smile I completely understand the stress this causes though Flowers

I have this and so does Dd. Was told it was spina bifida occulta, you can see the bottom of it ok. It hasn’t caused me or Dd any issues but i believe for some people it could do.
