Cough and temperature for ten days

My son has had a bad cough witch we have all had in the house for nearly ten days with a fluctuating temperature the highest it has been is 38 I have taken him to the doctors twice and they refuse to give me anti biotic he responds well to the calpol and the temperature comes down and he is well in himself but I have severe health anxiety and the on going temperature is making me a nervous wreck can children have a temperature for this long is it just a bad virus that is taking time to clear up

Yes of course they can, just like you and I can. 38 isn’t a very high temperature although that doesn’t necessarily indicate how ill you can feel. I’ve just been wiped out with the flu for two weeks, absolutely floored me, any virus can do this. Coughs can also take weeks to clear. You don’t have to give calpol for a temperature if they feel ok in themselves.

Thank you for replying my health anxiety is through the roof everywhere I look online it says that a child shouldn't have a temperature for longer than 5 days so where it has almost been two weeks I'm just beside myself worrying that it would be something more sinister

I am ill with a flu type virus with a bad cough that has been going on for a week and a half. I keep thinking I am better and trying to get back to normal then I am back on the sofa again feeling rubbish. I literally can't push on through this, so I have given up today and just resting. The doctor has checked him and isn't worried, so just give it time and obviously take him back again if it lingers on or gets worse. Take care OP. If it helps this illness has also made me really miserable and anxious so it might be doing similar to you? Give yourself a break.
