Hi Everyone, looking for anyone who’s been in the same boat. My son is 6 and had a sudden turn in his eye early January (he turned 6 in the feb) we got sent to hospital where they did some basic neurological tests with his balance etc. He has no other symptoms, we’ve been under ophthalmology since and he’s on the waiting list for an operation to straighten his eye. When we saw the consultant she said she wanted to do an MRI as precaution, this has sent me into panic thinking there could be something more sinister. I’ve only read up on children having this usually before 5 and wanted some reassurance If anyone else has children 5 or over that this has happened to…
Thankyou x

A cause of sudden onset squints in older children are brain tumours. Tumours also often cause swelling g of the optic nerve head, so if this hasn’t been mentioned, it’s likely to just be a precaution.

it is bound to be a worrying for you, but it’s great that they’re being thorough. Hopefully it can be done soon and put your mind at rest.

Try a general optician appointment they were amazing checking my daughter over when she suddenly developed a turn in her eye. There's little test they do to check if it's vision related or if it's habit forming. He told us it was definitely not her eyesight straight away and it ended up being a bit stress related because I wasn't well at the time. Stress can come over them and affect eyes/slight flinches they soon pass. Good luck
