Hey just asking for some advice or experiences please. My son had a UTI that turned to sepsis when he was 6 weeks old. Then at 12 weeks he had another uti that also turned septic. He is now 16 weeks.

The doctors did a kidney scan and said they couldn’t find any reason for the cause of his uti’s and put it down to very bad luck. This doesn’t sit right with me & I’m losing my mind as I constantly think he has utis and would be down the doctors everyday checking as I’m so anxious.

Has anyone experienced this and their little one didn’t have another one? Or any advice about further testing or any diagnosis’s you have that my little one might have? Two utis in a young baby boy is rare and I feel like there’s more too it and it makes me worry so much, thank you x

What kind of scan did they do? I would think they would need to test for VUR which requires an MCUG.

DD had UTIs from 10 months and it was reflux, so we was returning to the kidneys due to shape of ureta, her kidneys were a bit low too. She was on low dose antibiotics for about 5-6 years. She had some tests to test her kidney function and flow of urine
Good luck

This will be a very unpopular opinion here, but one of the main causes of UTIs in infant boys can be cured by circumcision.

If I were you, I'd take your little DS to a pediatrician and have his recurrent UTI's investigated properly.

Medical reasons for circumcision aren't negative at all. Negativity towards circumcision is for cultural or religious reasons

Hey, so sorry to hear :(. My boy hasn’t had a uti now since he was 5 months. He had 4 in total. The doctors kept telling me it will likely be something he will grow out of, and so far it looks like he has. We are still having investigations, I was referred to royal London hospital to potentially have a scan for kidney reflux. But because he hasn’t had a uti since he was 5 months (he’s 9 months now) we are going to hold out. If he has another one, they have said they will do a scan to test for kidney reflux, & he will be put on antibiotics until he’s old enough for surgery. Apparently it’s super unlucky and not common but they can have utis and it just be bad luck. I’d say by the sound of your little boy, the fact he has had his second one 4 months later sounds positive. I think if it was a major problem that needs surgery, he would be having utis a lot more often. We’ve had kidney ultrasounds to cud j the condition of his kidneys and they are fine. And usually they can detect any severe abnormalities with the unltrasoimds. So if you haven’t had a scan yet maybe push for one? You know your boy best so keep pushing Xx
