DD13 having hot flushes

She keeps suddenly feeling hot - the way she describes it sounds like how a menopausal woman describes a hot flush.

She’s mentioned it to me a few times in the past week but when I asked her how long it’s been going on for, she said a while (although she can’t really quantify how long “a while” is).

Puberty started young and her first period was at age 11 (she’s nearly 14 now). She had an ultrasound recently for painful periods but all was well.

Could this be hormonal in some way? I’m a real panicker and have already found things on Google that have really worried me (I know, I know…).

Could it be anxiety?

Could she be feeling faint? I had similar a couple of times in my teens.

@Nogodsnomasters it could be anxiety as she does suffer with that but she usually recognises when she’s feeling anxious and tells me.

@eurochick she’s not feeling faint but when she felt hot the other day she said it made her feel a bit tired.

I remember having a few hot flushes at school when I was a teenager. I can't remember what I thought it was at the time, but looking back definitely think it was hormonal. Occasionally get them now alongside period cramps.

@SatsumaCat thank you, that’s useful to know. I don’t think she’s due a period but perhaps we should start noting when she gets the flushes to see if they are happening at a particular time during the month - maybe around ovulation or something like that?

I've always had these alongside my periods - now I'm in peri, I recognise them as being very similar to hot flushes!

I would ask the GP for some blood tests as if it is hormonal, the pill could really help.

I had really long cycles / random periods (did a lot of exercise) so no obvious pattern, I think in only happened occasionally over 1 or 2 years. I was on the pill (for acne) at about 16 but can't remember if I had them then - sorry not much help it was a long time ago!
