My daughter is almost 14 she has had some symptoms for about 2 months dizziness, nausea, feeling cold, feeling faint she actually fainted too. I thought it could be low iron or b12 even though she has a very good diet leafy veg red meat etc. she’s been on multi vitamins around 7 weeks
she has gotten a lot worse over the last week but more so since Friday.
she has a GP appointment for later this afternoon she hates the docs as she was a very sickly child in and out of hospital with her asthma and chest so was prodded and poked a lot.
what could it be the likely suspect is anemia or low b12 despite the vitamins as I know sometimes the one you buy over the counter are not strong enough if the levels are super low

I'd say anemia as well , get bloods taken to check definitely x

Doctors for blood tests so you know exactly what the issue is, get the right supplements/meds underway ASAP.

Bagpuss2022 · 02/09/2024 15:05

Thank you both we have the docs in a hour I hope they do the bloods there and then as going back and waiting while she feels this awful wouldn’t be great

Poor thing. Horrid feeling grotty and not knowing why.

Lougle · 02/09/2024 15:07

You may need to take her to the hospital if she needs blood tests. My GP surgery aren't allowed to take blood from minors.

They do them on over 13s it’s a large surgery that has X-rays scans etc as part of the practice

Is she eating enough?

Less than normal this last week but before that no a healthy hearty appetite despite feeling nauseous . She’s never been much of a breakfast eater but has a early biggish healthy lunch and then normal home cooked dinner she’s not fussy loves a good salad etc plus supper of hot choc and toast most days

Could it be hormone related OP? I knew someone who fainted every time she came on her period. I know you've said she's felt like it for weeks but if she's not started her periods could it be her body working through the changes? Hope GP helps you to get to the bottom of it. Make sure she's eating and drinking enough.

Yes, this happened to my friend's daughter too.

Hi @Bagpuss2022 I’m just wondering if you got any answers for your DD?

My DD has similar symptoms, mainly when she’s been doing sport but also if she’s stood up for too long. She had her bloods done at the GP but all has come back normal. GP thinks maybe it’s her blood pressure dropping but I’m at a loss at to what to do with her.

I’m sorry your DD is having similar problems yes it’s come back as Pernicious anemia she’s now on strong iron tablets and she’s having injections of B12 every other day for 10 days then maintenance doses once a month.
maybe your could ask for her to have the continuous BP machine and try and figure out triggers etc hope you get some answers

@Bagpuss2022 oh wow, I’m so glad you got answers and your dd is being treated, it must be a relief for you.

Thank you, I think I’ll have to take her back to the gp and see what they say.
