Ds2 is 16 and waiting for an autism assessment. He is a sensory avoided and hates hugs. Ds1 wanted to find out what happens to ds2's heart rate when someone hugs him so (with permission, I think ds2 was curious too) ds1 put an oxygen sats monitor and heart rate monitor on ds2, waited a few minutes and hugged him. Ds2's resting heart rate was 60 and then it went up to 111 when ds1 hugged him. Is that normal for heart rates to go that high under pressure or is this an extreme reaction? Should I be more firm with MIL when she tries to hug him? Ds2 gives me a hug once a year, his choice, which I really appreciate but now I'm worried I'm damaging his health.
