Any idea what this is? 7 year old just came to me with his mouth pouring with blood. When I've looked there is a hole in the back of his gum. Any idea? Dentist a few months ago said brushing etc all fine. He's not hurt it and says it isn't painful.

He probably has a back tooth coming through at the top , one starting to come through at the bottom and has bitten the gum there.
If you are worried you should see your dentist.

Could be a burst eruption cyst, nothing to worry about at all. Small cyst that forms around a developing tooth that bursts as the tooth erupts. They can be filled with blood. Tooth should come through soon now.

Blood blister. He probably bit that area or injured it somehow a few days ago without realising and this can often be a delayed result when the skin/tissue doesn't actually break at the time. The blood builds up and eventually it pops. Wouldn't worry unless there's suddenly multiple happening in a very short space of time.

Ah yes or this!

Thanks all. Was worried maybe an abcess. Do they get new molars at this age?!

Deffo doesn't look like abscess. And that would be swollen and sore. As others say it looks like a small blood blister or eruption cyst. It should clear up on its own. Maybe use corsodyl mouthwash to keep it extra clean. If it starts to hurt or doesn't go in a few days then go to dentist.

To confirm, yes they get new molars around this age. My almost 7yo was told at our last dentist visit that his next top molars were looking like they might come through soon.

Pinkypinkyplonk · 22/08/2024 23:16

Yes, the first adult molars erupt at his age, behind the rest of his baby teeth

Molars grinding on each other, not an abcess.
