Hi all my little one had second mmr 3weeks ago today since last week she's developed a dry cough only at night is fine during day an has no fever etc this cough can waken her with a coughing spasm in middle of night and as its continuing I'm going to phone doctors today has anyone else had this as a side effect or my other thought is asthma thanks for all advice in advance from a worried mum

More likely to be viral than anything to do with the MMR surely? It's been a while but I don't remember a cough being one of the listed side effects.

No harm getting her seen, as you say nighttime coughing can be a sign of asthma and you don't fuck around with asthma. But, after just a week she probably just has a cough. They can get worse at night with lying down.

Post nasal drip tickles hence cough
Allergies (any animals about?)
Bedding/dust mites?
Night cough could be asthma but if it’s only been a couple if weeks I’d wait and see
Reflux can cause coughing, reflux when lying down?
My three had light fever and two had a v light rash post MMR.

Unlikely due to MMR.
Sadly whooping cough is doing the rounds though ☹️

Just coincidence. You child has caught an unrelated virus.

Rocknrollstar · 20/08/2024 07:51

It’s just a coincidence. there are no side effects to MMR and many dangers to not having the jab. wish your little one better.

There's loads of side effects to the MMR - my eldest had a 41 degree temperature. That's why they give you a whole list of side effects in the booklet. They just don't include a cough, and are well worth tolerating for the immunity granted.

We didn’t get a booklet and 4 days after (last night) my little one got a 39.7 temp. My partner took him and only came back with the information saying he might have a rash 7-10 days after

Weird claim.

MMR is known for relatively common (approx 10%) well described and surprisingly delayed side effects, but cough really isn't one of them... However, a risk of being unwell for two days is worth the subsequent protection.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 16/11/2024 09:08

I think my DS had a delayed slight temp and my DD a small viral rash. Both happened about 4-5 days after so I kind of took a moment to link it to the jab!

You sound nervous about jabs though; please don't be. The best effect, side or otherwise, is your DC avoiding very serious illnesses.

Yes I am nervous. I’m nervous about everything mind. I know he’s had to have the jabs. He’s just been doing so well with illnesses lately I’m gutted to see the temp and to be that high too. Now not sure if it’s linked because he’s also sounding very throaty

That's not true. Our pediatrician told us our LO can get fever / rash about a week after getting the vaccine. He got high fever after the first one, which lasted about 5 days.

I don't think cough is common side effect though. Could be viral?
