My DD has had a fever now being day two today temp running up to 40.1 regular paracetamol given bringing it down to a comfortable 37.1/36.9 paracetamol given every 4hourly as recommended but she has no other symptoms? I’m quite worried on what this is but she is eating, drinking, playing and passing wet and dirty nappies just this dreaded high temp making her feel uncomfortable? Any suggestions - can’t see any rash, spots and no runny nose sore throat etc.

Call your doctor for advice if you are worried, especially if she is less than six months old or if there are other symptoms developing at any stage. However, fever (which a temperature can be a sign of) can last several days so four days is not unusual without any other symptoms. It can be a sign of a cough or cold coming or a reaction to vaccination but can also just be a fever and not develop into anything else. It can also be a sign of teething but unlikely as you'd see other signs of this with the temperature such as red cheeks, irritability, perhaps off food so it doesn't look like it is this for your daughter. Keep giving regular drinks of water and keep her cool. A couple more days of plenty of fluids, keeping cool and paracetamol and it will be over.

Thank you she is 19months old it’s just so strange usually she’s had. Runny nose or something with a fever this time nothing at all happy in herself just a raging temp! Thank you will keep an eye and contact doctor tomorrow to just check!
