3 yo tooth decay

My DS (3) has tooth decay behind one of his front teeth and I’m mega worried. You can’t see it from the front, just when he tips his head back. I have a dental appointment booked for him but I’m worried it’s already quite advanced - it’s light brown colour.

What can they / will they do to treat it?

Are you sure it’s decay?

First of all, address why such a young child has decay. Work out whether he has an enamel problem (and if so recommend a treatment for it, there are coatings and special dietary restrictions etc), or if not, then work out why.

The affected tooth has always had a chip in it at the bottom since it came through, and has always had looked slightly translucent compared to the other teeth, so I think it is just a weaker tooth and poss more susceptible to decay (especially as no other teeth seem to be affected)?? He goes to the dentist every 6 months and at the last appointment 5 months ago the dentist said there were no signs of decay, so it seems to have developed quickly. I’m pretty sure it’s decay although it’s kind of in the bottom half of the tooth rather than near the gum
