Elastic nail in broken forearm, any experience/advice?

My child recently broke their arm and it was stabilised using elastic nails. No cast fitted after operation, just bandaging. The nails will have to be removed and we we're told this would be under local anaesthetic in a few months, which worries me! I'd love to hear any experiences of healing and removal of nails, and if it was without cast too. I've asked questions and got answers at the hospital, but it's not quite the same as hearing about personal experiences.

My child had this I think, although I’m not sure about elastic nails, they were titanium rods , is it the same thing?
It was a few years back but all was fine, and great healing . Also no cast.

Thanks @Velvetmama, that's reassuring! Yes same thing I think, made with titanium. Were they removed at a later date? If so how easy/comfortable was this?

Yes my child had two removed from the forearm bones, it was done under general anaesthetic and there were no issues at all afterwards, just some small incision wounds.
