DH thinks I’ve wasted money on DD5 glasses

DD is 5 and has been short sighted since the age of 4 and her prescription was a -1.00 in both eyes. In march I took her back and her eyes had deteriorated to a -1.75 and -2.00. During this appointment the optician brought up the idea of trying myopia control glasses for DD and told us to think it over and come back in 3 months. I took her back today and her eyes have now deteriorated to a -2.50 in both eyes and she now has astigmatism. Due to the rapid change I decided to go with the stellest myopia control lenses. It ended up costing quite a lot of money but we could afford it without putting any strain on us financially. DH seems quite mad and thinks it’s ridiculous to spend all that money on a pair of glasses for a child.
Am I wrong here? I think DD prescription at her age warrants the cost. It’s her eyesight ffs.

I wish those had been a thing when DS1 was that age. His eyesight deteriorated rapidly at the same age as your DD and as an adult he is now around -10. It's actually cost a fortune over the years regardless, as whilst you technically get free glasses for children, the voucher doesn't cover the cost of paying for the lenses to be thinned. That has to be paid for as apart from the aesthetic, it reduces the weight on their face.

Add in the difficulties doing sport, the cost of prescription goggles etc etc and the complete inability to function without glasses, then anything to reduce the prescription is to be taken advantage of.

My prescription is around -4 and I can function in the house without anything. He can't.

He also suffers from dry eyes due to roaccutane so can't wear contact lenses.

I hope these help your DD OP. At one point DS needed new glasses every 3 months and his file ended up being investigated by the NHS as a potential fraud.
