Hand flapping at 1yr old?

I see it is one of first sign of spectrum, and it is important.

I also see my baby which is now 13 months doing it from month of 3, mostly when we drive him in baby chair, he is flapping with arms and legs all the time.

He is also squeezing his hands sometimes in a repetitive way.

How are other experiences and is flapping and to what extent normal for 1 year old baby?
I am confused because articles says it is normal, but when i type "baby flapping" on videos it gives me hundreds of videos related to changed spectrum, and none of them says it is normal.

I wouldn't worry until they are nearing 2

cestlavielife · 30/07/2024 17:45

If otherwise fine and developing typically then no worries

All baby’s flap - they’re getting used to their limbs

It’s way too early to be looking into this.

I do find that parents these days are always looking for things in their children.

theres no need to worry until the 2 year check.

I know, but i am curious how common is this in babies younger then 2 yrs? Common or rare?

I have no idea how common it is, but DC1 always did this when the Tellytubbies were on TV.

He's now 27 and NT.

fancyfrogs · 30/07/2024 19:53

Very common I believe. They may be expressing excitement and have limited ways to do it when they are so small. Or they can just be getting used to how their limbs move. Both of mine did it and I really wouldn't be worried at this age.
