Hello

Has anyone used infant Gaviscon for a very young baby? My 5 week old is having terrible reflux and has been prescribed it but I’m just worried about giving it as she’s so little! Husband has just given her some and she has settled after screaming following feeds for last two days.

What are you worried about? Dts were 31 weekers and were in gaviscon, domperidone and something else I can't remember the name of now from when they were two weeks old.

DD1 had it from around the same age. Its very commonly used and much better than constantly being in pain, refusing feeds, arching back, unable to sleep etc. We didnt need to give a full dose - just half of one sachet was enough to settle DD, so if you are worried, you could also experiment with a smaller amount so you are giving the minimum needed.

Thanks both. First time mum so I guess everything is just a bit scary and I can overthink! Reassuring to hear you’ve both used it so young and successfully. Fingers crossed it works for her. It’s awful seeing her in pain.

My daughter is 4 in a few weeks and has been on gaviscon since 6 weeks. She needed a bit of lactulose of the constipation in the early days but is fine now. She's been on omperazole since 8 weeks and domperidone since 8 months with no lasting effects.

Used it from 2 weeks with both of mine, it's half a sachet until they are a certain weight I think
