Tired 3 yo

Our 3yo has suddenly started complaining that he’s too tired to walk lately and asks me to carry him everywhere. I thought maybe it was just a bit of laziness, but he fell asleep as I was carrying home from the shop yesterday.

Is this normal after stopping the use of a stroller? He won’t ride a bike or scooter, hates the stroller so walking is the only option. I don’t mind carrying him for parts of the walk, but he doesn’t even walk the full length of our street before saying he’s tired.

He’s also still asleep after 15 hours and I’m just a bit worried something else might be going on.

Mine at just-turned-3 would part-walk, part-buggyboard/carry on dad's shoulders. Now at 3-nearly-4 it's all walk walk walk for hours and no complaints of tiredness (until bedtime).

The only time we've seen the level of lethargy that you describe is when they've been under the weather or coming down with something and this is what it sounds like for you, particularly if its recent and sudden as you suggest.

Thank you. Yeah, he’s 3 and a half and used to beg to get out of the pushchair (which is why we’ve stopped using it). I’m going to keep an eye on him the next few days and maybe get him an appointment if it continues.
