Flow murmur in 8 week old baby

My son has his baby check up and 8 weeks vaccinations on Wednesday.

When doing the top to toe examination the doctor was using the stethoscope to listen to his heart and could hear a flow murmur.

She said she will contact the paediatrician and see what they want to do. It could be nothing and resolve itself and she will check it at the next appointment or they may want to see him at the hospital and do further test themselves to asses what is going on.

I had a call today to say he has been booked in to see a paediatric cardiologist at the hospital on Monday.

Has anyone been through a similar situation or know anything about flow murmurs, or what will happen next.. any advice is much appreciated

This is a common situation and in most situations there is either a heart with completely normal plumbing, or a minor extra connection that won't need any further action.

There is a good patient info leaflet from GOSH.
