Pharyngitis - any natural remedies?

My DS13 had no voice at all last week and was also exhausted and starting to cough quite a lot. We saw a GP on Friday who said it’s pharyngitis, almost certainly caused by a virus, and is probably also exacerbating his mild asthma. He’s been prescribed steroids and an additional inhaler but so far nothing is making a difference. He’s been off school a whole week and there’s no way he could go in at the moment. We’re going on holiday in a week.

Does anyone have any suggestions of things might help speed his recovery? I’m already giving him floradix tonic and extra vitamins. We’ve also tried hot honey and lemon which is soothing but does nothing to bring his voice back. He literally has less than a whisper.

Steam inhalation might help? GP said to add ginger and/or turmeric to honey and lemon as it has anti inflammatory properties.

But most of all complete rest of the voice. No talking at all. Dh finds Vocalzones helpful when he's struggling.
