Thumb sucking at night

My 4 year old son has always been a thumb sucker - I’ve managed to stop him during the day by showing him photos of what can happen to teeth so he has wanted to do it less and he has been great about it, but we agreed he could still do it when he’s in his bed. I obviously would like to get him to stop at night too but I don’t know how as he does it to help get to sleep. He doesn’t suck hard on it, more rests it in his mouth, so I am not sure if this will do damage to his teeth or not. Does anyone know how essential it would be for me to get the nighttime sucking to stop? Thanks

You really need to try, it doesn't just effect the teeth, it also effects the roof of the mouth. My DD had a dummy, and when that was took sucked her teeth, we use to put knee socks over her hands and secure them with micro tape. It took a while, she was also 3. Never let other kids suck thumbs. What does your dentist say? My DD teeth are also fine and she's a adult now.
