Croup steroid side effect?!

Hi all,

on Friday we had to take our 5 month old into hospital as he was suffering badly with croup. The doctor prescribed him one dose of a steroid (dexamethasone) which was given at the hospital.
that day it seemed to certainly ease his croup symptoms but has over the past couple of days seemed to completely have changed my baby’s personality. A once super content, “textbook” baby has become an irritable, inconsolable one. He used to feed 6oz every four hours, sleep through the night and just be a generally very happy baby. I’m now struggling to get more than a couple of ounces of milk into him at any time and he just seems to cry and be unhappy most of the day. He is now also waking multiple times a night for no real reason (not hungry or needing a nappy change). He was actually in better form, sleeping and feeding better whilst suffering with croup before he got the steroid.
just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and if so how long did it last?!

Normal. My kids have had loads of steroids for croup and we were warned they would have ‘roid rage’ 😳 as far as I remember it lasted a few days, certainly no more than a week. Hope he feels better soon. He’s likely also tired and out of sync.

Thanks @MaryMaryVeryContrary it’s just such a huge switch up that I was a bit worried!
