My daughter was diagnosed with vulvovagintis when she was 3. She is 7 now.

Throughout the years she has had flare ups on her vagina and anus, that we can usually cure with the metanium yellow cream (used to be a steroid but doctors stopped giving it as they said they no longer like giving them to young children). Sometimes there would be discharge also which is common with this condition.

A couple of Saturdays ago she broke her foot, so we’ve had trouble getting her in the bath, so just been doing strip washes daily and using a jug of warm water and a flannel to clean down there (also trying to do it every time she does a wee/poo, but because of her sensory issues sometimes she refuses as she hates the feel of water, so we use water wipes instead) She also gets quite hot and where she is now sitting more and not being able to move it’s been quite sweaty down there more so than usual.

But over the space of the last week, she has had a huge flare up, with discharge that now has started to smell quite potent. We went to the doctor where they’ve prescribed Timodine but that doesn’t seem to be working at all.
Ive also given her (and ourselves) a dose of ovex as I was worried it was worms (I’ve not seen any in her bum or poo and She doesn’t move in her sleep or cry out, so I don’t know if it can be that without seeing them at all?).

I am going to send off a swab today and a wee sample as her wee is fish smelling and cloudy but keeps coming back as just satisfactory on the samples and left at that.

I can’t work out if this is just the vulvovaginitis really playing up more or something else. We’ve been to the GP so many times in the last 2 weeks but they don’t seem bothered in the slightest by it.

Has anyone had similar troubles, either with yourself or your child/ren? What treatments did you manage to get to work?

thanks for taking the time to read/reply.
