My son is 4 and for at least 6 weeks has been grunting and clearing his throat/coughing. Saw a gp 3 weeks ago and said uts probably a habit but ti go back if not better in a few weeks. He then had tonsillitis a few days later. He's better from the infection but the grunting is still there. Today it's been worse. He woke up from a nap crying and was sick through coughing so much. This happens at night also. His nose is constantly streaming too. We've tried antihistamines to no avail. I'm going to book an appointment tomorrow if i can get one. Does anyone have a similar experience? Would you go to a@e if the gp doesn't take it seriously? I'm just really worried

Yes I would go to the GP, and ask them to consider asthma, reflux and any other possible causes. Good luck.

He needs investigating for asthma. The coughing and mucus type stuff is often one of the first signs. Not everyone has a wheeze etc.

Do you think it could be enlarged adenoids? He drools alot too. And mouth breathes

Well after getting sent to an urgent care by my surgery, we were sent to a@e who took us to paediatrics. His to tonsils were enlarged and glands up. His chest sounded fine but they did an xray in case. Patches were found on his lungs. He's had a nasty chest infection, possibly pneumonia. Now on antibiotics for 5 days.
