Adenoidectomy and ear tubes post surgery experience

Hello all,

My DD got adenoidectomy and ear tubes in both ears yesterday and has some issues such as completely blocked nose and has had to breathe through mouth. also she complains of stinging pain in ears when I put the ear drops post surgery.

If any experience on this please share, as I am really worried about her recovery process 🙏

Do you mean grommets were inserted? I had 1 inserted and an adenoidectomy age 4. I remember it in great detail- even 40 yrs on! I don't recall any initial ear stinging or pain though. How old is your DD? I do remember the blocked nose and feeling very bunged up. I'm not sure if I wasn't supposed to, but a few days later at home I snuck into the bathroom to blow my nose. There was alot of dark, old blood which continues for maybe a week. Blowing it was a real relief though, but as said, I'm really not sure if I was supposed to do that only a few days post op.

1 thing I wasn't aware of, was that the grommet works its way out slowly as the eardrum grows and pushes it out. I had a follow up with the ENT in his rooms, he got out a very long, pointy, shiny instrument to remove it. That was the scariest part, only because it hadn't been explained and the tweezer thing was cold in my ear. On a plus side, I was getting agonising, earaches every few months beforehand. I don't think I ever had another till my teens or even adulthood, so it was 100% worth a few days of discomfort.

You could always call the paediatric ward where the op was done or leave a message with the consultants secretary if you have concerns. Happy to answer any questions, but things might have changed since mine was done.
