Struggling to poop

My wee boy is 10wks old and every time he needs a poop it’s a proper drama and then when he goes it’s a full on explosion. He also struggles to pass wind but also has spells throughout the day where farts like a trooper lol!
He’s combi fed but mainly fed by me with one or 2 formula bottles. Seen GP and told it’s just what happens are their digestive system develops but I think there has to be more to it! They don’t think it’s CMPA but I’m thinking it’s possible it could be as he’s also quite congested. We use kendamil formula but thinking of trying something else if anyone has done that?

Hi Op,

Your situation sounds a bit like ours but our LO is 5 weeks old.

She is also combi fed with only one formula bottle before bed and only just started with it. She also struggles to poo and has wind. In all honesty, I just think it’s a brand new digestive system getting used to everything that’s in the breast milk and the formula. My LO has no other signs of potential allergy, rash etc. The congestion could be a few different things. I don’t think it’s unusual for new borns to be windy etc, although it’s incredibly stressful for us as parents dealing with it and trying to help them pass wind/poo. How long have you been combo feeding for and does your LO poo every day or are they getting constipated ?

I remember with my first she had terrible reflux and was windy, but it wasn’t CMPA, her digestive system was just figuring things out, by about 4 months the issues had subsided and things levelled out

Just need to add to that though, it is veryyy stressful having a windy baby, it’s disrupts their sleep, they never seem comfortable or content, I really do feel for you

yeah he usually poops once a day and due to BF it’s quite runny! Yesterday was the longest he’d gone - almost 28hours and then he had a good (loud) empty and was much more content but this morning was gurning with wind again but passed a bit during a baby class we were at. I definitely don’t think it’s an allergy but you just wonder what causes it! GP also said it’ll just be his digestive system developing and give him until 12 weeks to see if there’s an improvement! It’s so stressful listening to them being so uncomfortable. Thankfully once he’s sleeping he seems ok but I do hear him thrashing his legs up and down during the night to help pass wind and it tends to work well as he rarely wakes up during the night in pain, only for a feed. I think we’ll persevere and hopefully in a couple weeks things will have settled.
