Could this be diabetes?

DS is nearly 7.

He has been drinking more recently and as a result peeing more, this has gone on for a good couple of months now. Initially I put it down to anxiety (eg. We go out for a meal and he goes at least 3/4 times for a wee during our meal) I tried not to put any pressure on him and not to draw any attention to it hoping it would pass.

I asked him today if he gets up through the night for a wee and he said between 4-5 times. I was utterly shocked and upset to learn this, I'm deaf so don't hear much during the night.

Around 2 years ago he had a illness and I had him to the doctors for excessive peeing, he had a finger prick and it was fine, doctor said it was just a virus being flushed out of his system.

As of the last 3-4 weeks hes complaining of a sore stomach, mostly after he eats but not always. He is opening his bowels fine.

I don't want the doctor to think I have some sort of fixation on getting him tested again for diabetes but I'm really concerned. The rational part of my brain is telling me that if it's gone on for the last 3-4 months though that it's probably not diabetes.

Has anyone had anything similar to this?

You don't mess about with the possibility of diabetes in children. I'd be at least calling 111 tonight, or potentially going to A&E.

It's absolutely worth checking him again. Also he's drinking more because he's weeing more (if it is diabetes) so don't restrict his fluids as he'll get dehydrated.

You're describing exactly what happened with my child. Same age too. I would go to the GP tomorrow. Diabetes care is excellent these days by the way.

Have you noticed any weight loss? My daughter was diagnosed in 2021. As well as excessive thirst & constantly needing the toilet, her weight loss was extreme before diagnosis.
