Hey all. We are between doctors so I had to do a televisit for a really crazy illness. Low grade fever, rivers of snot and endless wet cough. Our child is prone to low grade fevers with any illness he's ever had. We didn't want to panic for that reason. He often won't get many typical symptoms after the fever breaks even if everyone else gets the classic symptoms. This time he's getting slammed. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and seemed to just think it was something we could decide to use or not.
Would you use it? We don't have a regular GP right now. Our doctor abruptly left the practice. I'd hate to go back to urgent care again but I'm nervous about antibiotics too. He's never had to take them before and he has food allergies. Doc said it would be fine for people that have peanut allergies and that it's usually a rash if there is a reaction.
It's hard because the cough is so miserable and the snot is copious. I don't know how normal that is. I feel like the low grade fever makes sense until these obnoxious symptoms pass but I also don't want to let it get bad. Teledoc is supposed to refer you if they can't address the problem and she seemed to think prescribing antibiotics for us to use at our discretion was the answer. I'm so overwhelmed. Part of me wants to think illnesses can drag on like this and I should wait it out a bit more. Thank you.
