Child post viral fatigue?

My son is 4, and 3 weeks ago got an awful case of Gastro. For over a week he was sick, tired and didn’t eat.

Since then he’s still so tired- he has mobility problems (getting up the stairs is a struggle, gets tired after walking for too long), which were improving before the sickness, but now he just wants to lie down and do nothing. He has commented that school is making him too tired now too. He loved going outside for a game of tag or football after school, but now he’s just so exhausted. We’ve had to go back to using his mobility pushchair for school runs. He’s not as happy and lively now- he just cries over small things.

Is this post viral fatigue? Anything I can do to help him?

Very common to be fatigued after an infection or virus, but I would take him to the GP soon for a check.

The only way to help is to wait and to keep things quiet outside school. Have you got half term soon? If so, can you give him a full week of rest and see if that helps?

We have, but we’re booked to go to the caravan! Although I will take his pushchair to make things easier for him.
