Looking for a hand to hold

Hi I'm just looking for anyone to relate to. Our son is currently sick with a bad cough, low grade fever, and runny nose. His fever was high at first but has stayed low grade now. He's prone to fevers since he was a baby even with the sniffles. He hasn't perked up in days for longer than an hour or so. I miss him! Have you had drawn out illnesses like this? How did you get through? My heart sinks every time he has a coughing fit or when he's sleepy during the day. He tried to joke around a little this morning and was humming in the shower so we felt encouraged. Then his energy would dip and he'd start coughing. I don't know what's going around but it caught us by surprise.

I know I sound ridiculous. Most people endure sickness every other week. My son wasn't in daycare so he avoided that marathon sickness that families are faced with.

This is just the longest sickness so far and didn't know if any moms or dads could swap stories and any tips on how to control the anxiety. Thank you very much.

Why are you feeling so anxious about this?

They catch all sorts and some linger in longer than others. Coughing can tire anyone out and especially in this heat. How about ice lollies to soothe his throat, a bit of hydration and some sugar for a bit of energy.

Hopefully he’ll start feeling better soon but I agree it’s awful when they’re not well and not themselves.

Let us know how he gets on xxx

Why are you feeling so anxious about this?

I'm anxious to begin with but the lasting fever and deja vu of the same symptoms every day is winding me up more. I wish I could be more relaxed and thought maybe hearing what others have experienced and how they managed it would help.

OP I have 3 small children and they have all suffered with coughs / colds / fevers like yours.

It's horrible when you are going through it. Just keep your little one topped up with calpol / neurofen / cough medicine and he/she will be fine.

If you're still not happy go to see the doctor and say how long it's been going on for. Check they don't have an ear infection. Little ones do get them and you don't even know. If they've had it for a while the doctor may prescribe antibiotics to help clear it up.

It's horrible when they are ill and you feel awful you can't just make them better. Their immune system need to experience illness to make them stronger too so don't forget that. Just enjoy the snuggles and knowing you're doing everything you can for them. Sending hugs xx

Thank you. This means a lot to me. I know he needs to build up his immune system. Bless everyone with multiple kids dealing with sickness. I know it's like a revolving door for some families.

Consider your hand held. Our son has something similar and the runny nose and cough literally won't end. I know some viruses take a while to resolve but it's enough already. I feel like we always get the ongoing bugs.
