Persistent Fungal Infection

Hi,

My 4 year old DD has got a skin problem all around her mouth and has now spread to her arm. Numerous Dr's have said it's a fungal infection and shes been on daktacort and daktarin on and off since January. She has just finished her last course of daktacort and she started the daktarin again today and in 12 hours I can already see the red inflamed skin and white flakes making a return on her face. the daktacort completely clears her skin but this is not a long term solution given the hydrocortisone in it. Has anyone suffered with a fungal infection that won't go? Can anyone else suggest anything that helps? Thank you

Hi OP

Do you have dogs/cats??
Family or friends your DS visits have any??

Has he been playing on the grass where dogs have been?

All needs to be considered, IMO

Good luck

I’d personally ask to see a specialist for this. I have found that sometimes the GPs continue to give medication like this which is actually doing more harm than good and the real specialists would prescribe a different solution. Of course, that assumes it’s a GP you’ve been seeing rather than a Skin specialist?

reallly sorry you’re going through this - I know the anxious feeling for you as a parent as my DS has a recurrent eye problem (that has flared up again now!) and the GP has prescribed the usual solution which I really do question. I need to follow my own advice and follow up with a specialist too!

thank you for all your messages, we don’t have any pets.

we’ve seen a dermatologist who quite frankly was useless. At the time her skin was under control with the daktacort (we had waited so long for an appointment) and he looked at a photo for 5 seconds. Said it was a type of dermatitis you only got in 2 patches around your mouth and said to use head and shoulders shampoo on her face to keep it under control. However the shampoo made it so much worse and the rash has spread to her arm and more around her face.
